Part of the Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection, there is nothing grey about this Talisker, with its golden copper colour provided by the use of heavily charred, ex-Bourbon American Oak casks - less grey, more joy in this amazing bottle of whisky. With the Greyjoys rulers of the Iron Islands, the coastal Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye is a perfect pairing - though we're yet to see a kraken there.
When you play the game of thrones, you win or you... drink delicious whisky! Part of the exciting Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection, this 9 year old whisky was distilled by the Islay-based Lagavulin distillery. It has been exclusively matured in 100% fresh ex-Bourbon casks, giving it a gorgeous light golden colour.
This is a special limited-edition bottling of single malt Scotch whisky that was released as part of a collaboration between Diageo and US TV network HBO, producers of the enormously successful Game of Thrones series. The show served as inspiration for each of the whiskies, which were paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros.
In this case the fab Cardhu Gold Reserve was bestowed with the House Targaryen. They're the ones with the dragons and stuff, as well as Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), who you'll probably recognise as she's a major character in the show. Their house words are 'Fire and Blood', but they can now update them to 'Fire, Blood and lovely Scotch'.
Many have fallen for the charms and complexities of Game of Thrones. You've spent years afraid your favourite characters might get killed off. You can't help but hum the intro theme. Now, thanks to Diageo and HBO, you can toast its triumphs with a bottling from its range of eight rare single malt Scotch whiskies.
The limited-edition Scotch you see here is Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old, a Highland stalwart from a distillery that was said to be a favourite of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and is conveniently situated close to Balmoral Castle. Combined with its proximity to Cairngorms National Park, an area that contains one quarter of Scotland’s native forest and plenty of deer, it's little wonder that it was paired with House Baratheon, a house with plenty of royal connections and whose sigil features a rampant stag.
HBO and Diageo have teamed up to create the Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection. Each whisky in the series is paired with a royal House of Westeros. This particular edition contains liquid sourced from the coastal distillery of Clynelish. It sits among scenic green pastures in Scotland's north, a landscape somewhat reminiscent of Highgarden, the home of the great House of Tyrell.
We're sure the fearless Queen of Thorns, Olenna Tyrell (portrayed by the legendary Diana Rigg) would approve of its floral quality, vibrant character and dignified label art, which features the Tyrell sigil - a golden rose.
To celebrate the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Diageo have collaborated with HBO to release a limited edition collection of eight single malt Scotch whiskies inspired by each of the Houses of Westeros and the Night's Watch.
Oban distillery sits beneath the steep cliff that overlooks the bay in the frontier between the Highlands and the Islands, separating land and sea, just as Castle Black sits between Westeros and what lies beyond The Wall and the terrifying forces of the Night King. Bottled at 43% abv, this limited edition could certainly keep the Night's Watch warm on even the coldest of nights.
The nose has straw and tangy cereal notes, before mellowing to cocoa and cherry. The palate is rich and mouth-coating with cherry pie and candied orange peel. The finish is long and rich with creme caramel and charred oak aspects.
