The word ‘Reposado’ translates to ‘rested’. Whereas Blanco tequilas are aged for up to 2 months or not at all, Reposados are aged for 2 months up until 1 year. 818 Tequila Reposado is produced from 100% Blue Weber Agave, cooked first in brick ovens for 40 hours, before being finely crushed, fermented, and double distilled in pot stills. Finally, the 818 Reposado is aged in French oak barrels for 2 months to a year before being bottled and delivered to us in the UK with a care and quality that does not go unnoticed. Don Julio Reposado Tequila is a 100% agave offering which spends eight months maturing in bourbon casks. It has a depth of flavour which is largely down to this maturation process and both almond and coconut notes come through alongside subtle spice and creamy vanilla in the nose. On tasting you’ll enjoy a biscuity depth with notes of sweet orchard fruits, cinnamon and white pepper which hangs around until the end.
El Jimador Reposado is made from mature blue agave and spends two months resting in American oak barrels. Golden hues escape from the bottle thanks to this process and the flavour mellow yet rich with toasted agave at the forefront. Olmeca Altos Reposado spends a little longer being aged than other Olmeca tequilas, with 18 months in 200 litre white American ex-bourbon casks. This delicious and moreish tequila has a rounded flavour that isn’t lacking in spice. Casamigos Reposado Tequila is hand-crafted from the finest 100% Weber Blue Agave, rested for a minimum of 7 months, this soft and glossy tequila delivers hints of caramel and cocoa. Produced and distilled in the heart of Tequila, Mexico, by Fabrica de Tequilas, this reposado was made with blue agave that was cooked in autoclaves using steam for 10 hours. A special yeast is then added to the agave juices before fermentation, which lasts as long as 72 hours before distillation.
Rooster Rojo reposado is subsequently double pot distilled in stainless steel pot stills, before being 'rested' in oak. Water filtered through Mexican silver is added to blend the product down to a measured 38% ABV.
Batanga reposado Tequila is produced at the Casa Orendain, which was founded all the way back in 1926! It's distilled using 100% agave, harvested from the Orendain plantation and fermented with yeast which is locally produced at the distillery from a recipe which is over 80 years old. Batanga is named after the eponymous drink created in the 1950s, which is a simple recipe of Tequila, cola and lime juice. We're sure the Tequila itself wouldn't go amiss in one of those!
Reposado or ‘rested’ tequila is any tequila which is aged for a minimum of two months but less than a year in oak barrels. It takes on a golden hue and has a balanced and robust flavour caused by the combination of agave and wood from the barrels.
