A powerful shooter like no other Stroh 80 is an intense and fiery rum which Austria is very proud of. It’s often enjoyed atop sweet desserts and as an additional kick to a comforting hot chocolate. Sweet notes of Demerara sugar can be picked out of the fiery heat of Stroh 80, alongside a soothing butterscotch with nutmeg hints. The intensity of Stroh 60 shouldn’t be underestimated and each taste will linger long after finishing.

Flamboyant Vieux Rum is a Mauritian offering which enjoys a relaxing seven years maturing in ex-bourbon barrels. It is named for the Flamboyant Tree which appear on its labelling and is a native species of Mauritius. The flavour of the rum is exotic as its naming, with floral notes present from the off and lingering until the end. Well-rounded but not lacking in flavour, Flamboyant Vieux Rum is just begging to be sipped.

Antigua’s finest, English Harbour rum spends a minimum of five years in aged bourbon barrels, delivering a touch of whisky spirit to each sip. Vanilla custard and cinnamon spice are the first scents that hit you and the flavour is deep with fudge and golden syrup, with the consistency of cinnamon carrying through. Different blends are brought together to deliver the end result, English Harbour rum which brings cinnamon to the centre stage and works wonderfully with your favourite ginger ale.

The Pusser's Rum collection has had a bit of a revamp. While their Blue Label is still made with the exact same blend of rums - a recipe from the Admiralty - it is now bottled at 40% abv rather that 54.5% abv. The reasoning behind this, is it allows Pusser's to be distributed to Naval bases, where the maximum allowed strength is 40%. If you're looking for the original 54.5% version, then fear not! It has now been rebranded as Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label.

A classic Demerara Navy style rum produced in Guyana, Wood’s 100 blends together a range of young rums. Both pot still and continuously distilled rums make their way into the mix and it’s a distinct flavour that’s often used in tiki-style cocktails. Prunes, caramel and sweet toffee are the first aromas released on opening and they’re soon joined by nutmeg and cinnamon spiciness. Dark chocolate and fudge come through but the spiciness is the flavour that endures.

Appleton Estate 8 Year Rum blends together 20 different rums to create a dark sugar concoction which is intensely enjoyable. The sugary nature of this Appleton offering is tempered by warm honey and despite the seeming sweetness it is sharp on the tongue with a satisfying hit of citrus peel and caramelised apple. Caramel and hazelnut flavours come through on tasting and this one rum that should be enjoyed neat.

Ron Cubay continues to bring its excellent source of Cuban rum to international consumers, after years of Cuban exclusivity, to bring this softer edition of its fine Añejo rum, aged for 7 years before being bottled.

An excellent golden rum from the talented Richard Seale’s Foursquare distillery in Barbados. Doorly’s 5yo is great in cocktails or for sipping on its own over ice. Doorly’s 5yo is a blend of rich pot still and elegant column distilled rums which are aged for at least 5 years in ex-American whiskey casks. Soft and fruity with sweet vanilla and toasty oak, this is a versatile rum which is delicious served neat, but also great as a base for cocktails or mixing in long drinks- try with a dry ginger ale and a wedge of lime!

One of the younger offerings from El Dorado, this blend made of rums of a minimum of 8 years old is sweetly spicy and thick with molasses and toffee flavours. There’s a festive feel to this rum, with Christmas cake spices working together to create a strong and enjoyable flavour. Honeyed vanilla, toffee and butterscotch are rich on the palate with syrupy orange marmalade coming through too, creating a rich and enjoyable rum which is perfect when enjoyed neat or with mixers.

Finest Old Demerara Rum

Bacardi is best known for their world famous white rum but here Bacardi 8 Year Old is an intense, red-gold offering which is exceptional when added to spiced cocktails or enjoyed neat. The aroma is awash with buttery caramel, orange marmalade and banana leaf notes which lead to a medium bodied flavour which allows sweet Demerara sugar, apricots and gingerbread to take centre stage. Butterscotch and vanilla notes linger throughout with just a touch of nutmeg spice finishing it off.

A classic Barbadian rum, Planteray 5 Year Old benefits from ex-bourbon cask barrels and Cognac barrels used in its maturation process. The flavour this delivers is unlike any other rum and gives its nose an intense leathery profile with spicy cinnamon and aromatic coconut too. On tasting Plantation 5 is surprisingly sweet with clear notes of molasses and that leathery depth from the scent. Salted butter and allspice add a distinguishing finish and ensure the fire remains strong to the last drop.

From the pristine lagoons to the lush jungles, Plantation Isle of Fiji is an ode to the beauty of the Fiji Islands and beautiful they are too! This delicious rum is made using traditional techniques and local Fijian sugar cane. First aged in this tropical climate in bourbon casks, the rum is then sailed to the southwest of France for a second maturation in French oak casks. This double ageing method paired with Fijian know-how creates a rum with warm notes of exotic fruits and raisin.

Launched to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pampero, Anniversario rum is produced for Venezuelan molasses and matured in pungent ex-bourbon cask. As you open up the short, squat bottle you’ll enjoy treacle rich aromas with festive spice notes. The flavour is welcomingly sweet but rounded and spicy oak notes sit comfortably alongside dried fruit and nutmegs. Amelia is a 2-year-old Agricole rum aged in ex Porto barrels. With a bottle design reminiscent of those kept by captains in the 19th century and an instruction from the makers not to even consider mixing it with anything but ice, Pyrat XO is a genuine premium rum. It was made to be the perfect rum in a Daiquiri, and with its oodles of tropical fruit flavours, we'd absolutely have to agree... Heaps of tropical fruit here, with pineapple and passion fruit at the helm, a dusting of cinnamon, brown sugar and pink peppercorn. Hints of oak and zesty citrus appear.

Angostura 1919 is an 8 year old offering from the famous Trinidadian distillery that benefits from oaky tones delivered through the ex-bourbon casks it’s matured in. Toasted coconut and rich vanilla are released from first opening and the taste is zesty with notes of exotic cumquat, dark sugar and faint herbal notes of eucalyptus and almond. The citrus flavours are the most prominent from beginning to end and give Angostura 1919 a refreshing twist.

La Hachichera is a bewitching rum which draws you in with its intense and spicy aroma. Taking its name from the Spanish word for enchantress a dried fruit and spicy aroma is paired with subtle vanilla, cacao and menthol. This Colombian rum takes you on a journey from bitter to sweet with bitter chocolate notes leading to warm spiced cinnamon, coffee and rounded vanilla. The bitterness blends beautifully into the sweet to offer a balance worthy of much appreciation.

Brugal 1888 was launched in 1988 to celebrate the company’s centenary and benefits from aging in ex-whisky barrels for 14 to 16 years. A portion of the blend is also aged in sherry butts and the aroma evidences this sweet sherry scent. The flavour is full-bodied and the sherry flavour remains with vanilla, toffee and vibrant liquorice notes also come through. Dry oak tannins are underlying throughout and add depth to the character of this rum.

Released in the UK in 2014, the Mount Gay Black Barrel rum is made from single column and double pot distilled rum, though using a higher proportion of double pot distillates than their other expressions. It is also finished in heavily charred bourbon barrels before being bottled.

Recognisable from the Blue Hyacinth Macaw on its bottle, Doorly’s fine Old Barbados Rum is an extra special creation. Doorly’s XO is a sweet concoction of heady aromas and enticing flavours including notes of Oloroso Sherry thanks to the casks the spirit is matured in. Oak spices are prevalent in the flavour and support the sweet vanilla and marzipan notes which deliver a tart spiciness which is enjoyable again and again. A lingering and enjoyable smokiness on the palate is again thanks to the oak maturation process.
