Silk Road Rose Fenjiu: "Based in Shanxi province, southwest of Beijing, Famed for its elegant ‘light-aroma’ style. With a history dating back 6,000 years, the Fenjiu Distillery still follows the ancient methods, using organic sorghum, water drawn from the Gouzhuang spring 840 metres below the nearby forest, double fermentation, double distillation with cornhusks added to the fermented grain, and long maturation periods in ceramic pots. The grain culture used to start the fermentation process is a combination of barley, peas and water, formed into bricks and left to develop in warm, humid conditions for up to two months until they grow yeasts, fungi and microorganisms. Fenjiu is matured in ceramic jars for between five and 30 years before blending and bottling. These breathable containers allow micro-oxygenation of the spirit and remove impurities, all without adding flavour. Mastiha is a fascinating liqueur created in Greece using the resin of the rare mastiha tree grown on the Greek island of Chios. It's not often seen, but when you do, it's always worth a look. This particular expression is Kleos Mastiha, produced by master distiller Maroussa Tsaxaki using the mastiha tears (the hardened resin) and mastiha essential oils. The name comes from a Greek word meaning “fame or glory attained through good deeds and hard work” - which is clearly an admirable thing to aspire to!

The rum base is an aged Caribbean rum previously used to season empty whisky casks for final maturation. Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is a blend of bergamot peel, Cedro lemons, chamomile, lavender, gentian, yellow roses and Melissa balm. An aromatic and lightly spicy liqueur which balances honeyed sweetness with rooty bitterness.

Fortunella liqueur was inspired by fragrant,aromatic golden oranges – kumquats – as well as their Chinese origins. Taking its name from the Asiatic species of kumquat known as Fortunella, this is a zesty, sweet liqueur, perfect for making cocktails or simply sipped over ice.

From the very highly-regarded Italian master distillers Tosolini comes this rather fabulous espresso coffee liqueur, made with traditionally-toasted Arabica coffee beans. This is superb stuff.

Roots Mastiha Liqueur is produced using the resin of Mastic trees on the Greek island of Chios – believed to have medicinal properties – and also saw use as a breath freshener – since 5BC.

Roots Kanela Liqueur is a blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and citrus. The brand may be new, but Kanela isn't – first being seen in Greece in the 15th century.

A liqueur from Tosolini made with Fragoline di Bosco - wild strawberries. These are small strawberries with an intense flavour and there are still quite a few floating around in the bottle.
