At the top of the Villa Lobos range sits their Extra Añejo tequila, which spends at least 4 years ageing in oak barrels after spending at least 6 months resting in open steel tanks. This process gives the tequila a rich, silky quality, says its creator, Carlos Camarena.
The Villa Lobos range is made by Carlos Camarena, also known for Ocho and Tapatio. The Reposado is aged in oak for 11 months, resulting in notes of sweet fruit and honey, with a hint of spice.
Tequila is a type of Mezcal that is made from the heart of the blue agave plant. To be classed as Tequila, it must be within the state of Jalisco and limited regions in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nayarit and Tampualipas, anything distilled out of these regions are classed as Mezcal.
