A combination of aged Scotch whiskies, heather honey and a recipe of secret ingredients, Drambuie is one of the best-known whisky liqueurs worldwide. It is the oldest British whisky liqueur brand and it’s origins can be traced to a secret recipe created for Bonnie Prince Charlie by his Royal Apothecary in the 18th Century. The legend goes that after the Battle of Culloden, he gave the elixir to a Scottish clan on the Isle of Skye in gratitude for their hospitality as he awaited safe passage back home.

There’s nothing wicked about this little witch, Strega, the Italian word for witch, is an aromatic and legendary liqueur. The mythical history of the drink tells us that female sprits made it and used it to cast spells on lovesick humans, so there was a little bit of witchcraft involved! Over 70 different barks and herbs give Strega it’s rich and aromatic flavour, enjoyable to the last sip with a strong herbaceous mouth.

Anis del Mono is a sweet and enticing aniseed liqueur which has a vibrant abundance of spice added into the mix. Pop it over ice or serve it neat and you can be sure you’ll enjoy it. You could even use it as a cocktail ingredient or enjoy it alongside coffee. Traditionally Anis del Mono is a digestif but once you’ve bought your bottle you can enjoy it whenever you like. A classic liqueur Kummel is a refreshing and sweet smelling drink which is packed full of flavour. Syrupy in the mouth, each sip is full-bodied and fiery, with pronounced notes of caraway, aniseed and hints of citrus and fresh peppermint. The heat gives way to a sugary sweetness which is very welcome and blends wonderfully with the deeper, spicier notes. Caraway and aniseed linger on considerably after drinking.

Based on a recipe that dates back to the 15th century, Tuaca is a brandy-based liqueur which brings together a number of brandies, a secret blend of fruits and spices and just a little sugar to blend it all together in harmony. On the nose is a spicy citrus tang which entices you to drink and when you do you’ll enjoy a surprisingly light and oily mouthfeel, sweet with a little dry spiciness and cinnamon, nutmeg and bitter orange leading the taste profile. It settles into a mellower, sweeter warmth, just the ticket after a filling meal.

A delicious Italian limoncello from Evangelista – a family owned company founded by Mayor Antonio Evangelista in 1907 in the Chieti region of central Italy, a particularly cold mountainous area.

Created in 1860, while Jean-Baptiste Combier was in prison, this blend of Original Combier, Elixir Combier and VSOP cognac, along with a variety of herbs and spices, is packed full of orange and spice. Great on its own or in cocktails when you need a bit more spice than a triple sec can deliver.

Maraska Maraschino is made in Zadar, Croatia. This slightly sweet cherry-flavoured liqueur is an essential ingredient in a classic Aviation or Martinez cocktail.

A premium Amaretto which doesn’t disappoint, Saliza Amaretto manages to balance a light body with an intense flavour. It’s rich with sweet marzipan and uses refined almond distillate to create its exceptional flavour. Despite their extensive range of liqueurs it’s the original elegance of their classic Grand Marnier which is the most famous. A triple sec from Combier, who claim that Jean-Baptiste Combier invented the orange liqueur sometime between 1834 and 1848 at their distillery in Saumur. Debated though that is, this is one of the originals, with a a bright citrus flavour.
