Silk Road Rose Fenjiu: "Based in Shanxi province, southwest of Beijing, Famed for its elegant ‘light-aroma’ style. With a history dating back 6,000 years, the Fenjiu Distillery still follows the ancient methods, using organic sorghum, water drawn from the Gouzhuang spring 840 metres below the nearby forest, double fermentation, double distillation with cornhusks added to the fermented grain, and long maturation periods in ceramic pots. The grain culture used to start the fermentation process is a combination of barley, peas and water, formed into bricks and left to develop in warm, humid conditions for up to two months until they grow yeasts, fungi and microorganisms. Fenjiu is matured in ceramic jars for between five and 30 years before blending and bottling. These breathable containers allow micro-oxygenation of the spirit and remove impurities, all without adding flavour. The Silk Road series is exclusively for overseas market.Although no sugar was added, the Silk Road Rose Fenjiu presents a soft rose sweetness, making it a perfect pair to a sweet dish or class tonic water." This yuzu liqueur from Cognac producer Pierre Ferrand draws inspiration from an old recipe that dates back to the 19th century. Made by macerating whole yuzu fruits in Cognac for a week, the infusion is then distilled and further matured with a mix of fruits and spices, including vanilla. Married with an extra dose of brandy before bottling, this aromatic liqueur offers rich, round and waxy notes of candied citrus, almonds, plums, toffee and nutmeg throughout the palate.

Kummel takes its name from German and Dutch derivations for cumin and caraway seed, which, alongside fennel, are used to flavour this colourless liqueur. Palate: Fennel and liquorice dominate the palate. Finish: The finish is refreshing with clean anise notes. Overall: A clean, anise-led, liqueur best-served chilled.

Mastiha is a fascinating liqueur created in Greece using the resin of the rare mastiha tree grown on the Greek island of Chios. It's not often seen, but when you do, it's always worth a look. This particular expression is Kleos Mastiha, produced by master distiller Maroussa Tsaxaki using the mastiha tears (the hardened resin) and mastiha essential oils. The name comes from a Greek word meaning “fame or glory attained through good deeds and hard work” - which is clearly an admirable thing to aspire to!

Pandan leaf liqueur from Maison Gabriel Boudier

A triple sec from Combier, who claim that Jean-Baptiste Combier invented the orange liqueur sometime between 1834 and 1848 at their distillery in Saumur. Debated though that is, this is one of the originals, with a a bright citrus flavour.

Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is a blend of bergamot peel, Cedro lemons, chamomile, lavender, gentian, yellow roses and Melissa balm. An aromatic and lightly spicy liqueur which balances honeyed sweetness with rooty bitterness.

Maraschino Luxardo is a classic Italian liqueur and is presented in it's traditional way, rafia covered bottle and all. The clear hues hide a flavour which is simply bursting with maraska cherries and a typically pungent aroma in which the cherries seem to invite you to take that first sip. Smooth on the palate initially, leading into a sharpness which is short lived but satisfying. It’s the aroma of this one which will have you back for another sip, lingering long after tasting.

The rum base is an aged Caribbean rum previously used to season empty whisky casks for final maturation. An extract of Banana Peel is infused into the rum to impart a fruity forward note to the spicy, sweet toffee profile of the Rum. It’s like liquid Banana Bread. Best served neat over ice, shaken in a Daiquiri or mixed long with Ginger Ale.
