This rum has classic aroma of a Cuban rum, lighter in style than other rums, with aged notes. Excellently balanced, it is undeniably smooth and delicate with notes of honey, vanilla and cacao. Its flavour perfectly embodies the rum from the Oriente of Cuba (the south east of the island): smooth, fruity and rich. It has a unique aroma that stands out in blind tastings amongst other Cuban rums. Every bottle of Ron Santiago de Cuba is certified by the DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida) meaning production, bottling and 100% of sugarcane is from Cuba. It also means the minimum age of any liquid found in the Aňejo is 8 years old with older blends included Nose: Notes of honey, vanilla, and cacao Palate: Exquisite notes of tropical fruit, honey, some coffee and cacao present. One of the younger Flor de Caña offerings, this 7 year old rum is perfectly primed for mixing into all your favourite rum cocktails. Whether there’s a dark’n’stormy on the cards or you simply want the perfect complement to a fizzy Coke, Flor de Caña 7 Years will do the job. Prominent hazelnut and almond lead the flavour of this rum, with vanilla rounding it all off smoothly. Coffee and bitter chocolate notes are hinted at but remain in the background alongside light spiciness. 

The happy black seal performing on the front of each bottle is not where this rum got its name, but it’s a fun addition. Gosling’s Black Seal is named for the wax used to seal the stopper in place in fact and this is a deep, dark rum which stewed fruit aromas emanating from first opening. Spicy and herbal notes blend together to lead into a thickly sweet and fruity flavour which tingles on the tongue and is supported by creamier vanilla notes with caramel hints.

A St. Lucian rum with real character, Chairman’s Reserve is a classic golden rum that blends together both pot still and continuous still rums. Fruity on the nose with just the right balance of sweetness it hits the palate with a zing and slowly fills the mouth with fruitiness, creamy depth and sweet spice which blends wonderfully with mixers. The overall feel of this rum is creamy, medium-bodied and wonderful for mixing into cocktails and enjoying with your favourite sparkling mixer.

The five year old offering initially launched as Angostura Gold is here and ready to show off the finest features of the popular Trinidadian brand. Blending together heavy and light molasses-based rums Angostura 5 Years is intense with pungent treacle and muscovado sugar notes coming through in the nose. The flavour itself is medium with cedar wood and spice playing key roles alongside zesty grapefruit. The citrus notes come through especially well in the aftertaste.

A spicy offering from Chairman’s Reserve, this rum is an award winner and one which is held in high esteem by rum fans worldwide. Deep mahogany notes are the home to a complex bitter nose where bitter and sweet raisin are peppered with hits of nutmeg and cinnamon. On the palate you’ll enjoy a surprisingly smoothness which has an exotic characteristic that the combination of orange and spices offers. Heady, and one you’ll definitely remember.

Duppy Share named the evil spirits that take their share of the rum, straight from the barrel. This blend of Jamaican and Barbados rum is great for drinking on its own or in a cheeky ginger beer and lime cocktail.

A powerful shooter like no other Stroh 80 is an intense and fiery rum which Austria is very proud of. It’s often enjoyed atop sweet desserts and as an additional kick to a comforting hot chocolate. Sweet notes of Demerara sugar can be picked out of the fiery heat of Stroh 80, alongside a soothing butterscotch with nutmeg hints. The intensity of Stroh 60 shouldn’t be underestimated and each taste will linger long after finishing.

Flamboyant Vieux Rum is a Mauritian offering which enjoys a relaxing seven years maturing in ex-bourbon barrels. It is named for the Flamboyant Tree which appear on its labelling and is a native species of Mauritius. The flavour of the rum is exotic as its naming, with floral notes present from the off and lingering until the end. Well-rounded but not lacking in flavour, Flamboyant Vieux Rum is just begging to be sipped.

Antigua’s finest, English Harbour rum spends a minimum of five years in aged bourbon barrels, delivering a touch of whisky spirit to each sip. Vanilla custard and cinnamon spice are the first scents that hit you and the flavour is deep with fudge and golden syrup, with the consistency of cinnamon carrying through. Different blends are brought together to deliver the end result, English Harbour rum which brings cinnamon to the centre stage and works wonderfully with your favourite ginger ale.

The Pusser's Rum collection has had a bit of a revamp. While their Blue Label is still made with the exact same blend of rums - a recipe from the Admiralty - it is now bottled at 40% abv rather that 54.5% abv. The reasoning behind this, is it allows Pusser's to be distributed to Naval bases, where the maximum allowed strength is 40%. If you're looking for the original 54.5% version, then fear not! It has now been rebranded as Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label.

A classic Demerara Navy style rum produced in Guyana, Wood’s 100 blends together a range of young rums. Both pot still and continuously distilled rums make their way into the mix and it’s a distinct flavour that’s often used in tiki-style cocktails. Prunes, caramel and sweet toffee are the first aromas released on opening and they’re soon joined by nutmeg and cinnamon spiciness. Dark chocolate and fudge come through but the spiciness is the flavour that endures.

Appleton Estate 8 Year Rum blends together 20 different rums to create a dark sugar concoction which is intensely enjoyable. The sugary nature of this Appleton offering is tempered by warm honey and despite the seeming sweetness it is sharp on the tongue with a satisfying hit of citrus peel and caramelised apple. Caramel and hazelnut flavours come through on tasting and this one rum that should be enjoyed neat.

Ron Cubay continues to bring its excellent source of Cuban rum to international consumers, after years of Cuban exclusivity, to bring this softer edition of its fine Añejo rum, aged for 7 years before being bottled.

An excellent golden rum from the talented Richard Seale’s Foursquare distillery in Barbados. Doorly’s 5yo is great in cocktails or for sipping on its own over ice. Doorly’s 5yo is a blend of rich pot still and elegant column distilled rums which are aged for at least 5 years in ex-American whiskey casks. Soft and fruity with sweet vanilla and toasty oak, this is a versatile rum which is delicious served neat, but also great as a base for cocktails or mixing in long drinks- try with a dry ginger ale and a wedge of lime!

The rum base is an aged Caribbean rum previously used to season empty whisky casks for final maturation. An extract of Banana Peel is infused into the rum to impart a fruity forward note to the spicy, sweet toffee profile of the Rum. It’s like liquid Banana Bread. Best served neat over ice, shaken in a Daiquiri or mixed long with Ginger Ale.

Not for the faint-hearted Wray & Nephew Overproof is one of Jamaica’s finest spirits and packs a punch as soon as you open the bottle. A Jamaican legend, Wray & Nephew is essential for a classic Caribbean Mai Tai and it’s also the secret ingredient which many cocktail masters use to finish their drinks with a flourish. Crystal clear and powerfully sharp on the tongue Wray & Nephew Overproof is one of Jamaica’s finest exports and is perfectly paired with tropical fruit juice cocktails.

One of the younger offerings from El Dorado, this blend made of rums of a minimum of 8 years old is sweetly spicy and thick with molasses and toffee flavours. There’s a festive feel to this rum, with Christmas cake spices working together to create a strong and enjoyable flavour. Honeyed vanilla, toffee and butterscotch are rich on the palate with syrupy orange marmalade coming through too, creating a rich and enjoyable rum which is perfect when enjoyed neat or with mixers.

Black Tears is produced using molasses sourced from four sugar mills in the Ciego de Avila province of the country. Coffee and cacao is used to create the spice flavour in the rum, which is produced by Grupo Azucarero (AzCuba Sugar Group). The company, which was formed seven years ago, has recommended a serve of 5cl of Black Tears to 15cl tonic in a highball glass.

Clement Creole Shrubb is one of those drinks that you may not have heard of but once you try it, you won’t want to stop. A strong and rich rhum agricole, Creole Shrubb is a sweet flavoured almost herbal offering which brings together old and young rums. The sweet sugar cane base blends beautifully with fresh orange peel and notes of oak which come through in the maturation process. Simple in its flavours but wonderfully sweet and perfectly drank neat, add Clement Shrubb to your drinks cabinet.

Finest Old Demerara Rum

A classic Barbadian rum, Planteray 5 Year Old benefits from ex-bourbon cask barrels and Cognac barrels used in its maturation process. The flavour this delivers is unlike any other rum and gives its nose an intense leathery profile with spicy cinnamon and aromatic coconut too. On tasting Plantation 5 is surprisingly sweet with clear notes of molasses and that leathery depth from the scent. Salted butter and allspice add a distinguishing finish and ensure the fire remains strong to the last drop.
