A West Highland malt of real esteem, this 14 year old Oban is traditional in its flavour but this isn’t something to overlook. Rich and smoky on the nose, this Oban has a medicinal flavour about it, with notes of the sea, coast and seaweed all coming through together. Smooth sweetness is offered up by citrus-infused vanilla but it’s the medicinal notes which truly make this a memorable dram.

Nomad is a unique whisky. A collaboration between sherry producer González Byass and Whyte & Mackay master blender Richard Paterson. A blended Scotch whisky aged for more than five years in sherry butts is shipped to Jerez for further year's ageing in PX casks.

An exciting expression from Nomad, this whisky has been on a journey! Firstly, a selection of previously matured malt and grain whiskies were blended and matured in Scotland. Next up, the blend was shipped over to Jerez, home of legendary sherry producer Gonzalez Byass, where it was filled into two types of sherry cask – Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso. This Reserve expression is matured for a decade in total, it's a splendid sipper, and should be rather exciting indeed for fans of well-sherried whiskies.

The Nikka Coffey Malt is the result of a unique distillation process in Coffey stills, which are normally used for grain whisky production. This rare 100% malt bottling offers a surprisingly rich texture and wonderful depth of flavour.

A blended malt whisky from the folks at the famous William Grant distillery, Monkey Shoulder brings together a range of smooth single malts in beautiful harmony. MINOR CASE STRAIGHT RYE WHISKY is “what might have been” in a bottle; In 1871, M.C. Beam began his distilling career under the supervision of his Uncle Jack Beam. By 1883, he was a partner at his own operation, where he brought his son Guy — Steve and Paul Beam’s grandfather — into the business, reawakening the stills that were silenced by Prohibition. Minor Case is an ode to what master distiller M.C. Beam’s rye whiskey would have tasted like had he not been stifled by Prohibition, aged in cream sherry casks for an unforgettable flavor. Nose: Earthy notes and sweet sherry Palate: Hint of sweet butterscotch Finish: Smooth, with hints of dried fruits--- Nose: Mince pie and stem ginger. Touches of dusty oak and honey'd cereal. Palate: A core of clove and soda bread, surrounded by cinnamon, cedar and blueberry muffin notes. Finish: Cacao, raspberry and cinnamon.

A solid and spicy rye made to the Michter's recipe, although not distilled at the now closed Schaefferstown distillery. Nonetheless, Michter's is a name with a certain cult cachet in American whiskey circles, and we reckon this will be a big hit over here. We cannot guarantee specific barrel number or year of release of these bottles.

This well tuned release of American whiskies includes components aged in French oak casks, which bring layers of warming spices to palate of soft herbs, crème caramel and nougat. This annual release from Michter’s in Louisville, Kentucky has developed a strong reputation among whiskey lovers since its debut in 2018. The 2024 release continues the high standard we’ve come to expect from these guys.

Michter's small-batch bourbon is named after a former 'oldest distillery in the USA', and is currently wowing the UK bar scene. Sweet, fruity and spicy, it packs in plenty of flavour.

Michters single barrel release of their rye. Filling their barrels at just above 50% ABV rather than at a much higher industry standard, turns Michters into a smoother, more full-bodied whisky. This release was bottled at 55.1% ABV as Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey.

Jim Murray describes this as oily with a sweet and spicy flavour. Mellow Corn is distilled at the Heaven Hill distillery.

Maker’s Mark’s claim to fame is that they distill their bourbon to the lowest proof in the whole of the US. They believe their distillation process ensures their bourbon’s rich, powerful flavour and the addition of red winter wheat adds a necessary smoothness. Fruity and rich on the nose you can enjoy the heat of spiced honey and the zest of mixed peels. Rye, spice and barley malt come through alongside butterscotch and vanilla, rounded the drink off perfectly.

The first line extension to the Maker's Mark range since the '50s, Maker's 46 is essentially the standard expression with added spice. This was not intended to compete with the core expression, instead it's a cousin to it, something different for those that like spicy bourbon. They add this extra dimension by inserting seared French oak staves into the barrels (with the stave profile "number 46" - thus the name). It's utterly stunning. Yet it is 47% abv . Confusing.

This is the 12-year-old version of Macallan's Double Cask series, aged in Oloroso sherry seasoned American and European oak casks for a little longer than the Gold version and with a corresponding extra weight and depth of dried fruit and vanilla flavours.

Another small-batch blend of fine rye whiskies distilled in a small copper pot still, this is a characterful, robust, smoky whisky with a pleasingly sweet palate.

With Legent, we finally get to see the results of the merging of Beam and Suntory in liquid form. This is a fun east meets the west bottle. Legent is a result of years of collaboration between Fred Noe, Jim Beam Master Distiller, and Shinji Fukuyo, Suntory Chief Blender. It’s an effort of uniting a master blender and a distiller from two different worlds. It began with Fred distilling the bourbon in Kentucky. Shinji visited Kentucky to taste the barrels throughout the aging process. Once the whiskeys were ready to be blended, Shinji stepped in with his blending expertise..

Laphroaig Quarter Cask was released in 2004 to much esteem. Youthful compared to other offerings it’s a highly commendable malt which still has a bold, enticing flavour despite its young age. Oily and butter rich on the nose, toffee, nuts and hickory smoke come through measuredly. The palate gives a bold hit of sweetness with fiery chilli heat coming through quickly in pursuit, medicinal freshness, chewy cereals and even a hint of cola also follow.

Here we have an extra-special Lagavulin, released as one of Diageo’s Special Releases for 2021. It was distilled back in 1994, and has spent twenty-six years maturing in a carefully-chosen blend of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

A single malt that many lust after, Lagavulin 16 Year Old is a southern Islay offering which combines bright rich notes with a light dryness, creating an interesting, concentrated flavour. The nose is reminiscent of Lapsang Souchong tea, exceptionally smokey with undertones of sweet sherry and vanilla. The flavour is equally intense, with a thick richness on the palate, rich in malt and sherry with bright fruited sweetness and the smoky peat always there in the background. A masterpiece of the smokey style.

Created to represent whiskey before it was mass produced, Knob Creek embodies the look, feel and taste of pre-prohibition bourbon. This is a long and patiently aged, high-rye bourbon from Jim Beam.

Johnnie Walker Red Label was first created in 1909 and brings together a classic blend of whiskies. Johnnie Walker Gold Blend Reserve is one premium whisky that all connoisseurs are rushing to try. Constructed around the flavours of a single malt from Clynelish, the flavours have been nurtured and brought into their own with great care. The nose is rich with Scottish heather, honey and caramel, with just a little subtle nutmeg coming through. On drinking you’ll enjoy the smoothness immediately, with a velvety mouth feel and more of that satisfying honey warmth. Johnnie Walker Double Black is an exceptional limited edition offering which brings out the finest notes of traditional Black Label and combines them with a peatier whisky which is matured in barrels which are more charred. Jameson Caskmates is an intriguing release. Having sent some of their casks to the local craft stout brewers at Franciscan Well, the casks were returned to Midleton where they were subsequently used to give a stout finish to Jameson! We tasted it before it was available in the UK when we visited Cork just before St. Patrick's Day 2015, and we know that some of the fine folk at Irish Distillers were worried that it may be seen as a bit of a gimmick. Perhaps to an extent it is, but more importantly, it works - a worthwhile experiment that's produced a unique and interesting Irish whiskey.

The second release in Jameson Caskmates range, finished this time in casks that once held zesty IPA. The combination adds further layers of hop fruitiness to the whiskies already fruity character as well as a touch of citrus, floral notes and some balancing bitterness. Jack Daniel's Triple Mash is a combination of 20% Jack Daniel's World Famous Maple Charcoal Mellowed Tennessee Whiskey, 60% Jack Daniel's Rye Whiskey and 20% Jack Daniel's American Malt Whiskey (they make malt whiskey too!). A dram with honey, malty notes and balanced soft oak notes, Jack Daniel's shows some of the intriguing whiskeys they make in their renowned distillery. They make all their barrels fully in house to be contructed and toasted to their specifications, all their whiskey is aged in Lynchburg Tennessee, and the yeast in the fermentation process is cultivated from their first post prohibition yeast, all the way back in 1938. Great to find out that one of the most well known drinks in the world is made in a geeky way, similar to what would be considered 'craft' (scaled up quite a bit).

ottled in Bond whiskeys have to be aged for a minimum of 4 years, and bottled at a 100 proof (50% abv). Jack Daniel's bottled in bond is 80% corn, 12% Rye, and 8% barley. Fermented using their own house yeast, and aged in their own barrels, coopered in house to their specifications. Lots of caramel notes, rich oak and spice.

J&B Rare is Europe’s most famous Scotch whisky, one of the most popular ones on the market. Blending together 42 different whiskies the flavour is a wonderfully nutty combination of sweetness and spice. Berry fruits, sweetshop fruit salad and caramel blend together with an oak-spiced warmth bringing each sip to a rounded finish. There’s a good reason this whisky is so popular, it’s smoothness on the palate and wonderful warmth.

Part of the new core range of whiskies launched by Isle of Jura in early 2018, this 10 year old expression takes the place of Jura Origin. It's initially aged in American white oak bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 40% ABV. It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath.

Howler Head brings together Kentucky bourbon and natural banana flavour to create a fab tipple that'll be excellent sipped neat or over ice. All those familiar bourbon flavours – caramel, honey, baking spices, and the like – pair wonderfully with the estery deliciousness of banana, so no surprises there. Howler Head will also do well in fruit-forward twists on classic cocktails, like the Old Fashioned or the Manhattan... Nose: Huge helpings of vanilla and banana fritter, followed by a whiff of cinnamon, with a touch of cask char developing. Palate: Ripe banana esters with a hint of banana pancake too, backed up by brown sugar, peppercorn, and toffee. Finish: Banana chips with a drizzle of honey, and a final hint of oak spiciness.

An oaky, spicy bourbon, Horse With No Name is made with a combination of yellow dent Texas corn, soft red winter wheat and six-row distiller’s malt, and then blended with habanero chilli distillate to give it a fruity note.

Hibiki Japanese Harmony is a blend of Japanese malt and grain whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Presented in the brand's trademark 24-faceted bottle representing the Japanese seasons, this is light, approachable and moreish with enticing notes of orange peel and white chocolate.

Hibiki 21 was named World's Best Blended Whisky at the 2013 World Whiskies Awards and was awarded 96 points in Jim Murray's 2014 Whisky Bible. Dr. Whisky says it's 'Unbelievably balanced, and dangerously drinkable'. So basically, it's pretty good stuff!

A straight rye whiskey from Bob Dylan's Heaven's Door range, finished in toasted oak cigar barrels from Vosges, France. It is full of orange peel, bright tropical fruit, coriander and spice notes and has already won a clutch of gold medals at spirits competitions over the past two years. The distinctive artwork on the bottle is a replica of metalwork crafted by Bob Dylan at his studio, Black Buffalo ironworks.
